Los Angeles city and county agencies need to improve social and educational services for the 60,000 to 80,000 American Indians who live in Los Angeles County, the county Human Relations Commission said in a report based on two days of public hearings. The report urged school districts to seek state adoption of textbooks that more accurately portray Indians. It also noted that more than 52% of all Indians live in urban areas. The report said that the Human Relations Commission’s staff and the Los Angeles City-County Native American Indian Commission will attempt to develop a legal services agency for Indians.
