A bullet-proof vest saved the life of Sheriff’s Deputy Lynette McKeown during a gun battle in which her partner was injured and a suspect wounded. A Los Angeles County sheriff’s spokesman said McKeown and Deputy David Smith were fired upon by a man they spotted trying to break into a car in a West Hollywood parking garage. McKeown, 25, was hit in the chest, but the bullet was stopped by her bullet-proof vest. She and Smith shot back and the suspect, Louis Perry Henson, was captured after being wounded. Smith’s shoulder was dislocated during the incident. Henson was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for treatment of a stomach wound and was booked on suspicion of attempted murder of a peace officer. McKeown was treated for a bruise inflicted by the bullet, and Smith was admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment of his shoulder.
