Brentwood : Hearing Set on Sunset Project

Share

A public hearing on a proposal to widen Sunset Boulevard from Evans Road to Rustic Lane will be held at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at Palisades High School.

The city of Los Angeles wants to provide a 10-foot-wide median for a left-turn lane from Sunset, eastbound onto Evans and westbound onto Rustic, and to widen existing lanes. The city also wants to bank the roadway, build a four-foot-wide concrete sidewalk on the south side of the street, remove or trim 49 trees and install street lighting, fences, guardrails and curbs.

The city has said the project would not have a significant impact on the environment. Copies of its report can be reviewed at the West Los Angeles Regional Library, Brentwood Branch Library and Palisades Branch Library. A limited supply also is available from the city engineer’s offices in West Los Angeles, 1645 Corinth Ave., Room 209, and at City Hall, 200 N. Spring St., Room 810.

The proposal is part of a series of widenings and left-turn lanes recommended for Sunset to improve the dangerous street. Some nearby residents support the changes; others contend that the city’s plans will lure more speeders and add noise and pollution to their neighborhoods.

The city’s Environmental Quality Board refused a request last year from residents who wanted the city to study the cumulative impact of all the changes before beginning any construction.
