An unidentified man was killed Friday night while trying to cross Interstate 8 in Mission Valley, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.
The accident occurred east of the Taylor Street exit about 11:15. The driver of an eastbound car saw the man but was unable to avoid him, the spokeswoman said.
The man was taken to Mercy Hospital where he died a short time later. It is not known why he was crossing the freeway.
The driver was going about 55 m.p.h., the spokeswoman said, and was not injured or cited in the accident.
