Mission Viejo Man Promoted in Reserves

George J. O’Connell Jr. of Mission Viejo has been promoted to colonel in the Marine Corps Reserves.
O’Connell, 44, an administrative manager for the Mission Viejo Co., is now awaiting reassignment from his previous post as deputy executive officer of Marine Air Group-46, a reserve unit at El Toro.
O’Connell joined the Marine Corps in 1964 after graduation from the University of Alabama and served in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot in 1966-67, earning the Silver Star for gallantry in action, the Purple Heart and the Air Medal.
O’Connell and his wife, Carol, have two children.
