SWAT Team Kills Gunman Who Threatened Woman, Child
A man who held a woman and her young son at gunpoint for several hours in Glendale on Sunday was shot and killed by members of a Sheriff’s Special Weapons Team.
A sheriff’s spokeswoman said Judy Andrade, 30, and her 11-year-old son fled the house in the 3200 block of Washington Place before officers lobbed tear gas into the dwelling.
Inside, Carlos Babilonia, 35, confronted deputies and refused to drop his gun, Deputy Roxanna Schuchman said. Shots were fired, she said, and Babilonia later died at Verdugo Hills Hospital.
Deputies were sent to the house when Andrade reported by phone that Babilonia was threatening her and her son with a gun. Investigators said Babilonia appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
