Edward Anthony Allen, an outfielder for the past two seasons with the Memphis Chicks, was released on bond after being arrested on purse snatching charges in Memphis. Allen, 22, was arrested Saturday and charged with larceny from a person. Allen, who is originally from Compton, is accused of stealing purses from three women during the past week.
He was identified after one of the victims gave police the license number of a car. The car, with Florida plates, was registered in Allen’s name, but he listed the Kansas City Royals training complex in Sarasota, Fla., as his address. He is under contract to the Royals and was traced through the team.
