Anaheim : Artesia Man Killed on Shoulder of Freeway
An Artesia man was killed early Wednesday when a pickup truck struck the man’s parked truck and trailer as he was checking it on the shoulder of the Riverside Freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.
Ruben Garcia, 35, was eastbound on the freeway when he pulled onto the shoulder near the State College Boulevard exit at about 6 a.m., Officer Jay Lindquist said.
Garcia was believed to be checking something between the trailer and pickup when the rig was hit from the rear, crushing Garcia between the truck and trailer, Lindquist said.
The pickup apparently drifted from the right-hand lane onto the shoulder, striking Garcia’s trailer, Lindquist said. The driver was not injured.
