A Hayward woman has been convicted of shooting her husband to death nearly 10 years ago and burying his body in a crawl space beneath their bedroom. Florence McCabe, 40, faces a maximum prison sentence of 25 years for first-degree murder and two additional years for using a gun. An Alameda County Superior Court jury found her guilty of shooting her husband, James E. Flores Jr., in the head as he slept. She then wrapped his body in a blanket and stuffed it in the crawl space where it was not discovered until 7 1/2 years later. The most damaging evidence during the three-month trial, according to jurors, was a taped conversation between McCabe and her best friend, Paulette Vance, in which McCabe talked about the murder.
