Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonald’s found its new restaurant expansion, higher sales from existing restaurants, the continuing success of new products and the effect of stronger foreign currencies contributed to record net income, total revenue and systemwide sales for the nine months and quarter ended Sept. 30. The firm said international sales were strong, while sales in the U.S. were positively impacted by the ongoing growth in breakfast sales, new product introductions such as biscuits and McD.L.T. and successful promotional activity. About 500 restaurants should be added this year, with approximately two-thirds in the U.S. and one-third in markets outside of the U.S., the firm added.
