Political Briefs : Officials Line Up to Knock Prop. 64
U.S. Sen. Pete Wilson (R.-Calif.) is against Proposition 64.
So is state Health Services Director Dr. Kenneth W. Kizer.
And the two men seemed almost to be trying to outdo each other when they appeared as speakers at a Los Angeles banquet where Hollywood stars pitched in to raise funds to defeat the proposition, which would require testing, public identification and possibly quarantine of AIDS victims.
“Contemptible!” Wilson said. “An evil proposition.”
“A battle of good versus evil,” Kizer agreed.
Such performers as Little Richard, Daniel J. Travanti and Dick Shawn also lent their talents to the event.
But campaign advisers, while appreciative, admitted some disappointment with the Los Angeles turnout of 700 for the fund-raiser. The crowd, they said, was heavy on entertainment figures and gay activists--but short on the kind of business leaders whose San Francisco counterparts have become major figures in the fight against AIDS.
