Gorwth in Carlsbad

Share

For me, Carlsbbad has always been a caring and sharing place in which to live. When I arrived in 1926, only about 700 residents enjoyed this beautiful area. Now, 60 years have passed and we share with more than 50,000.

Over the years, we have heard many say: “I hope Carlsbad never changes.” Just why do they think that there was a welcome for them and their families? I’ll tell you why. It is because that growing population gave of their interests, community participation and taxes. They worked for a Carlsbad High School, a junior college, a hospital, parks, community cultural events and an incorporated city.

Changes do not please everyone, and again we hear the demand that nothing change the comfort of the present residents, that no others be permitted to enjoy the privilege of Carlsbad living.

Unfortunately, that is not the way of life. We grow, we change or we die. Cities are like people. They need to be nourished. As growth occurs, adequate planning becomes the vitamin for sustained health.

Proposition E is the city’s vitamin for fair growth because it balances the needs of new citizens in providing streets, parks, schools and the multiple city services that most of us take for granted. Without this balanced growth, we may not even be able to support the ongoing needs of Carlsbad.

Do not covet for yourself alone the privileges that others also are entitled to enjoy.

I urge that you vote in favor of Proposition E so you can enjoy the fact that you made a balanced decision, not a biased one.
