Local News in Brief : Workshop Offered on Disposal of Toxic Waste
A workshop on proper disposal of hazardous waste will be offered to small-business operators in the Valley next Thursday evening in Van Nuys.
The free workshop, co-sponsored by the California Safety Council and several governmental agencies and private firms, is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. at the Airtel Plaza Hotel, 7277 Valjean Ave.
Sponsors said that seating is limited and that those interested in attending should register in advance by calling 800 468-4296.
The workshop was presented in July and was attended by about 175 owners or managers of auto-repair shops, metal-finishing companies, dry cleaners and similar producers of small quantities of hazardous waste.
The program was spurred by concern about contamination of Valley ground-water wells that supply about 15% of Los Angeles’ drinking water supply.
