A senior member of the Monterey County coroner’s office was charged with embezzling personal property from the estates of 12 people over the last dozen years. A complaint filed by the Monterey County district attorney accused recently discharged Senior Deputy Coroner Paul Dayson Crossman, 44, with stealing a handgun belonging to Lawrence Gilman, who was killed with his wife in September, 1984, at his out-call massage business, and jewelry from the Pacific Grove home of the late Olga Chebyshowa. Disappearance of the Chebyshowa property became the focus of a grand jury investigation and an internal investigation by the Sheriff’s Department.
