The first round of the America’s Cup defender trials ends today in Fremantle, Australia, with the Kookaburras in command.

Australia III (4-5) broke its backstay and lost to stablemate Australia IV (7-2) by 2 minutes 17 seconds in winds of 18 to 20 knots.

In Monday’s other races, Kookaburra III (8-1) breezed to a 6:05 victory over South Australia (2-7), and Kookaburra II (6-3) defeated Eastern Australia’s winless Steak’n Kidney by 2:33.
