Love is blind, which may explain why a 700-pound moose has fallen head over hoofs for a neighborhood cow named Jessica.

The off-beat romance has stolen the hearts of curiosity seekers--some from as far away as Colorado--who arrived in the last few days to catch a glimpse of the pastoral courtship.

“They’ve nuzzled like they’re kissing but I ain’t seen no action,” said Larry Carrara, who owns the brown and white Hereford cow that appears to have accepted the moose’s advances.

Carrara said he woke up Saturday morning and found the 2-year-old moose gazing toward his small herd of cows. After a few glances, the moose fell for the little Hereford, Carrara said.

Over the weekend and through a rainy Monday the love-struck couple continued to trade stares and occasionally nuzzle.

But game warden Donald Gallus predicted that the courtship will be short-lived. He said the moose will probably tire of the romance once the mating season ends in early November.

“He’s got maybe a week left,” Gallus said.
