Torrance : Hotel Project Jeopardized

Share

In a move that jeopardized a proposed hotel and office complex in the northeast section of Torrance, the City Council voted 4 to 3 to require an environmental impact statement after hearing residents complain of traffic problems.

After the vote, John R. Glassmoyer of Carver Development said, “The hotel probably won’t make it in the city of Torrance.” He said the council action probably killed the project because a competing project in a nearby section of Los Angeles would get a head start during the eight- to nine-month delay that it would take to produce the environmental report.

The proposed project was to be a 300-room hotel and a four- or eight-story office building on a seven-acre site north of 190th Street and just west of the San Diego Freeway.

Glassmoyer said his company probably will move ahead with previously approved plans to build two office buildings on an adjacent parcel of land.
