The attorney for Pamela Rae Stewart, charged with neglect in connection with her infant son’s death, petitioned the San Diego County Superior Court on Wednesday to reverse an order requiring Stewart to turn over her medical records to the prosecution.

A San Diego Municipal Court judge last week directed the lawyer, Richard Boesen, to provide the Grossmont Hospital records to Deputy Dist. Atty. Harry Elias.

Experts say Stewart, 27, is the first woman in the United States to face criminal charges for injuries to an infant stemming from the mother’s alleged misconduct during pregnancy. She is accused of ignoring a doctor’s advice to rest in bed, avoid intercourse and illicit drugs, and immediately report any signs of bleeding.
