San Diego Soccer : Washington Rallies to Tie USIU, 4-4

Daryl Green scored on a penalty kick with eight seconds remaining in regulation to give Washington a 4-4 tie with United States International University Friday in a first-round college soccer match of the USIU tournament.

The two teams played a scoreless 20 minutes of overtime.

USIU (6-3-2) led, 3-0, midway through the second half. Cem Er had two goals and an assist. But Eric Guise scored twice in one minute to begin Washington’s comeback.

Washington (8-4-4) plays USF at 2 p.m. today. USIU meets USF on Sunday at 2 p.m.

San Diego State 3, St. Mary’s 0--Goalie Felipe Hernandez blocked a penalty kick late in the first half and gained his fifth shutout in the nonconference match at Aztec Bowl. Curt Lewis, Kyle Whittemore and Tim Homan each scored for the Aztecs (12-2-4). St. Mary’s is 7-11-1.
