Letters : Santa Ana Measures

It can be clearly seen that the Los Angeles Times has not done its legwork in its positions on Santa Ana’s ballot Measures G and H.

The editorial starts out with some facts, then it gets carried away with a scare of imaginary power. Any government--city, county, state or federal--should have one person who has the responsibility to carry out the legislative laws. That person should have the power to say, “Let’s drop back and take a good look and make sure before we take action to get rid of our football stadium or close streets.”

Any paper that would favor a measure that would cut the city down to six wards and then elect a mayor and one City Council member from the same ward--both with voting power and the power of “reconsideration” and both elected at large by one voter power block--does not understand Measure G or Measure H.

Measure H would keep the present seven council seats with the members elected by the voters in the ward they live in. The mayor is would be elected by all the people and votes vote only in the event of a tie vote in the council.
