An industrialist being held in a cave by Basque separatists was freed in a gun battle near the northern Spanish city of Vitoria. Regional spokesman Emilio Alfaro said that Basque police freed Lucio Aguinalde unharmed but that the policeman who led the raid was killed. Alfaro said one of the guerrillas was critically injured in the gun battle while another was captured and a third escaped. Aguinalde, who is a member of the moderate Basque Nationalist Party, was abducted Oct. 15 for refusing to pay a “revolutionary tax” the guerrillas levy on businessmen.
