Plenty of Choices for Voters Today

In what local election officials say could be the largest election in San Diego County history, voters will go to the polls today to cast ballots in races for more than 100 offices and more than three dozen propositions.

With the local ballot fattened by the consolidation of many local races with the statewide elections--previously, the local races had been held in odd-numbered years--today’s election “probably includes more things to vote on for the average voter than any past election,” according to Maggie Edwards, a spokeswoman for the registrar of voters’ office.

Throughout San Diego County, voters will cast ballots for 599 candidates running for 138 elective local, state and national offices; 24 local propositions, and 13 statewide propositions, Edwards said.

Local election officials have projected that 60% of the county’s 1,122,637 voters will go to the polls today.

The county’s 1,716 polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters uncertain of where to vote or who experience other Election Day problems should call the registrar’s office at 565-5800 for assistance.
