A Dulzura woman was arrested Monday on suspicion of murder in the shooting death of her live-in companion. Sheriff’s deputies arrested Glenda Jo Virgil, 39, at the home she shared with Mark Cutler Garrett, 35, on Marron Valley Road, said Lt. Bill Baxter of the Sheriff’s Department’s homicide detail.

Earlier Monday morning, a caretaker at the South Bay Rod and Gun Club, next door to the couple’s home, found Garrett’s body near the club’s firing range, Baxter said.

Garrett apparently died of a gunshot wound to the chest, Coroner’s Deputy Jerry Hillbrand said.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Virgil after questioning her and finding a shotgun in the couple’s house, Baxter said. Homicide detectives believe the woman shot Garrett during a domestic dispute, he said. Virgil is being held without bail at Las Colinas County Jail in Santee.
