The Region

A Los Angeles man has been reunited with his sister and her family more than seven years after he began fighting to win permission for them to emigrate from the Soviet Union. George Avakian met his sister, Janet Pogosian, her husband, Sarkis, and the couple's three children at Los Angeles International Airport. "All my life I fought with the Soviets to come here," said Avakian, an ethnic Armenian who left the Soviet Union a decade ago. "Then when my sister decided to come I started fighting for her."
