All University of Washington student athletes will be tested for drug abuse as part of their annual medical examinations, the school announced.
Athletes will need tests showing they are drug-free in order to remain eligible for their sports.
An ad hoc committee that announced the plan recommended that all athletes be tested for such drugs as marijuana, cocaine, depressants and hallucinogens. In addition, it recommended that football linemen, members of the varsity crew and throwers in track and field also be tested for anabolic steroids.
