The state announced the reopening of Morro Bay, off San Luis Obispo County, to the commercial harvesting of oysters, clams and mussels. The bay had been closed March 12 because of effluent from the Morro Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant. The City of Morro Bay has since started chlorinating the effluent. State Health Director Kenneth Kizer said Morro Bay will still be routinely closed during wet winter months when watershed runoff from heavy rainfall typically contaminates the water.
