The Republican Central Committee of San Francisco, with little money, falling registration in a heavily Democratic area and facing possible litigation, has decided to close its headquarters at the end of the month. That would leave the committee without a home for the first time in 34 years, bringing back memories of when meetings were held in private homes. Party Chairwoman Harriet Ross said the committee’s executive director will be laid off and party files will be put in storage. For the most recent election, Republicans represented only 19% of San Francisco’s registered voters--72,800 to 248,500 Democrats. “All the voters are losers,” Ross said. “San Francisco should have better balance politically. The people are entitled to bipartisanship in government.”
