Ten players, including outfielders Brian Downing of the Angels and Gary Ward of the Texas Rangers, filed for free agency just hours before Tuesday’s midnight deadline, bringing to 82 the number of major league players on this year’s list.

Also filing on the final day were Clint Hurdle of the St. Louis Cardinals, Bob Owchinko of of the Montreal Expos, Jim Clancy of the Toronto Blue Jays, Claudell Washington of the New York Yankees, Darrell Porter of the Rangers and Dusty Baker, Bruce Bochte and Doug Bair of the Oakland A’s.
