Convicted of murdering four women, Wilbur Jennings of Selma was sentenced to die in the gas chamber by Fresno County Superior Court Judge Mario Olmos, who followed the recommendation of the jury that convicted Jennings. The four victims, three of them prostitutes, were killed over a two-year period. Most of the victims’ bodies were found in or around irrigation canals, leading police to term the suspect “the ditch bank killer.” Jennings’ death sentence will be appealed automatically to the state Supreme Court.
