Tuberculosis has killed at least nine birds at the Milwaukee County Zoo this year, and officials fear the aviary’s remaining 260 birds may be infected. At least 15 birds have died from the disease since 1980, with the number increasing this year because the bird population is aging and more susceptible to infection, Bruce Beehler, the zoo’s director of animal health, said.
