AND WAIT, THERE’S MORE: It’s always nice to see our favorite pop songs slipping into the public lexicon. So it was a special treat to hear Massachusetts Gov. Michael S. Dukakis, who recently won re-election, conclude his victory speech by saying: “To quote a little band called Timbuk 3, the future’s so bright, we’ve got to wear shades.” . . . PolyGram is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Amnesty International with the release this week of “Rock for Amnesty,” a new compilation of recent hits whose royalties will go to the human rights organization. The collection features songs by Paul McCartney, John Cougar Mellencamp, Bryan Adams, Dire Straits and Peter Gabriel, plus a new Sting rendition of “Strange Fruit” and a previously unreleased Tears for Fears track called “I Believe (A Soulful Re-Recording).” . . . And in our favorite celebrity appearance of the week, Hawthorne High’s homecoming queen was crowned by none other than Prince last weekend. The Purple One materialized (in a limo, of course) at half time of the Hawthorne-Mira Costa High game, escorted by a pair of squad cars, to make the homecoming presentation.
