A man shot by a police officer after fleeing from a robbery scene was in stable condition after being booked on suspicion of armed robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and parole violation, police said Sunday.

Kevin Williamson, 23, of Santa Ana was being held in the jail ward at UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was reported in stable condition Sunday night.

Police said the shooting took place after a robbery at the Photo Place in the 14000 block of Brookhurst Street about 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Officers said a man brandished a gun at the clerk and fled with about $90. The clerk notified police of the car license number, and a Garden Grove officer spotted the car and chased it. The man in the escaping car lost control of the vehicle and crashed at Harbor Boulevard and Hazard Avenue, then fled on foot.

The pursuing officer, whose name has not been released, ordered the man to halt, and when he didn’t, fired “several rounds,” one of which hit the man in the buttocks, police said.
