Lakers Put Magic on Ice After Sacramento Win, but He Should Be Ready for Mavericks Tonight

Magic Johnson, who went through more ice Sunday night than the Forum Club, was a sore sight for the eyes of Laker trainer Gary Vitti, who summoned a team photographer.

“He looked so bad that I had a picture taken of him,” Vitti said of Johnson and the multiple ice packs he was wearing after a physical game against the Sacramento Kings.

By Monday, however, Johnson had defrosted. And despite soreness in his right shoulder, left Achilles’ tendon, both knees and some swelling beneath his left eye, the Laker guard is expected to be in the lineup tonight when Los Angeles plays the Dallas Mavericks here.

With Kurt Rambis also nursing a sprained right ankle and a sore right calf that was kicked during a game 10 days ago, Laker Coach Pat Riley decided to call off Monday’s practice for the 5-1 Lakers.
