Oklahoma Coach Barry Switzer and several of his players said the Sooners will ignore a call by the coordinator of the College Players Assn. to delay the start of their football game with Nebraska on Saturday to call attention to the alleged exploitation of college athletes.

But linebacker Brian Bosworth said there is a 50-50 chance that the players will take a stand.

Dick DeVenzio of Charlotte, N.C., coordinator of the fledgling CPA, asked Oklahoma and Nebraska football players in a letter earlier this season to consider delaying the start of the game for 30 minutes “to send a message loud and clear across the nation that a new arrangement is coming, that negotiations with players must begin to take place.”

Nebraska Coach Tom Osborne also said he doubts the game will be delayed, but he called players “the most forgotten element in the whole equation of college athletics.”
