Whittier : Dumping Hearing Delayed
The arraignment of four Whittier officials on charges of unlawful dumping of hazardous materials in a city maintenance yard has been postponed for a fourth time, until Jan. 6.
The case has also been moved to the courtroom of Municipal Judge Xenophon F. Lang in Los Angeles. On Monday, attorneys representing the City of Whittier and four of its top officials told Municipal Judge Glennette Blackwell that they still need more time to prepare their case before entering pleas. Blackwell agreed, then transfered the case to Lang.
The city was charged with a felony count of unlawfully disposing of hazardous wastes--paint residue and thinners--in a dirt trench in the city yard. The four officials were also charged with a misdemeanor count involving the same allegations.
