The Region : No Appeal of AIDS Ruling

Share

The Atascadero School Board decided not to appeal a Los Angeles federal court order to readmit a 5-year-old AIDS victim who had bitten a kindergarten classmate, and the boy will return to school next week. Robin Thomas, father of Ryan Thomas, said he and his wife, Judy, have decided to start the boy back in kindergarten at Santa Rosa Elementary School. Thomas had said earlier that they considered keeping Ryan out of school for the rest of the year, but decided he needed to be in a school setting and did not believe “the preschools around here would let him in.” Ryan has acquired immune deficiency syndrome due to a blood transfusion he received shortly after birth. Thomas also said he has been approached by at least two television production companies for the rights to Ryan’s story.
