A $245,000 low-interest loan for the purchase of a Pico-Union area building to provide transitional housing for those with AIDS or AIDS-related illnesses was approved by the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency, it was announced by AIDS Project Los Angeles. APLA Executive Director Paula Van Ness said it is hoped to have the facility opened early next year providing shelter for approximately 25 people who would otherwise be homeless. She said the CRA board was thus acknowledging that acquired immune deficiency syndrome is not casually transmitted and that the neighborhood is not at risk.
