BAKERSFIELD — Searchers hunting for a small plane that had been missing since Monday found the wreckage on a mountain northeast of Bakersfield Friday. Both men aboard were dead, said Kern County sheriff’s spokesman Randy Raymond.
Thick fog prevented an aerial search Friday for the Cessna 150 that took off from Kernville Airport Monday afternoon. However, ground searchers found the wreckage on Lookout Peak in the Piute Mountains, Raymond said.
The victims’ names were not released, but they were reportedly Rockwell International employees in Southern California.
They had failed to file a flight plan when they started their trip Monday morning from Lancaster Airport, Raymond said.
