Members of the International Typographical Union, its numbers decimated by computerization of the newspaper and printing industries, voted overwhelmingly to become a part of the Communications Workers of America, which is dominated by telephone employees. ITU members voted by more than a 4-1 margin to merge with the CWA, ending a decade-long effort by the typographers to align themselves with a larger union.
