BEIRUT —
Shia Muslim Amal militiamen and Palestinian guerrillas ignored a Syrian-brokered cease-fire today and fought bloody battles in southern Lebanon and Beirut. At least 20 people were killed.
The fiercest fighting raged around the strategic village of Maghdousheh, outside Sidon, a port city 24 miles south of Beirut. Police said at least 15 fighters were killed and 40 wounded in house-to-house combat in the village today. No breakdown of Palestinian and Amal casualties was available.
