Jon Bradshaw, 48; Editor, Biographer of Blues Singer

Jon Bradshaw, author and editor, died Tuesday at UCLA Medical Center of a heart attack. He was 48 and had been playing tennis when stricken, friends said.

Bradshaw, who lived in Benedict Canyon, wrote several books, most recently “Dreams That Money Can Buy,” a biography of blues singer Libby Holman. He also wrote “Fast Company” in 1975, a gallery of scenes in the lives of six professional gamblers and “The Cruelest Game,” a book on backgammon in 1974.

Bradshaw, who also was a contributing editor to Esquire magazine, was a reporter for the old New York Herald Tribune before moving to England to write for Queen Magazine, Vogue and the Sunday Times of London. He returned to New York in the 1970s and worked for New York magazine before moving to Los Angeles.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn, a daughter and brother.
