Defensive end Charles Mann of the Washington Redskins learned Friday that he has been fined $2,500 for a controversial tackle of Green Bay quarterback Randy Wright earlier this month.

Mann said he was told of the disciplinary action when he reported for practice, according to the Washington Post.

Mann hit Wright on the helmet with his helmet late in the second quarter of Washington’s 16-7 victory at Green Bay Nov. 9. Wright had just released a pass when he was hit by Mann.

Game officials called a roughing-the-passer penalty on Mann, and Wright left the game in favor of Chuck Fusina but has started every game since.

“I think it’s totally unfounded,” Mann said. “I feel like I’ve been robbed. I thought it was a legitimate hit and I still think it was a legitimate hit. It was blown way out of proportion.”

Mann said he may appeal the fine but had not decided whether to request a hearing.
