USIU Holds On to Beat Alaska in Hockey, 5-3

United States International University scored five goals in the first period and held on for a 5-3 victory at home Friday night against the University of Alaska Anchorage in a Great West Hockey Conference match.

Mike Genz scored two of the first-period goals for the Gulls, who are 4-2-1 in conference and 5-3-1 overall. Also scoring for USIU were Blake Jurgens, Mike McGrath and Mike Castellano. Scorers for Alaska Anchorage (2-2-1, 6-3-2) were Jeff Burns, Joey Hayse and Ken Carlson. The two teams play again tonight at 7:30 at the USIU Arena.
