A 23-year-old Lakewood man was jailed after he allegedly fled a traffic accident that killed a 2-year-old girl and seriously injured eight others, authorities said. Juan Parra Garcia, who was covered with blood, was arrested at his Lakewood home, police said. He was treated for lacerations, then booked for investigation of vehicular manslaughter, said Officer Joanna Hernandez. Garcia is under investigation for allegedly running a red light at Vermont and Slauson avenues early Friday and hitting two other vehicles, said Officer Ralph McComb. Two-year-old Charvis Smith was sitting on her mother’s lap in one of the vehicles, McComb said. Both mother and daughter were thrown from the car, killing the toddler, he said.
