Newport Beach : Wieder Reappointed Head of Water Panel
Orange County Supervisor Harriett M. Wieder was reappointed chairwoman of the Southern California Water Committee during the organization’s annual meeting.
SCWC, a coalition of government, business and agricultural interests from eight Southern and central California counties founded in 1983, also approved a 1987 budget of more than $300,000 for educational and conservation programs at its annual meeting last week, committee officials said.
Wieder noted that one of the committee’s main tasks in the coming year will be to work with the State Water Resources Control Board in assessing Southern California’s needs and consumption.
In preparation for looking at future statewide water projects, state Chairman W. Don Maugham said the board will examine whether Southern California needs are being met efficiently and whether enough reclaimed water is being used.
