The Region : Dog Food Recalled in Wake of Deaths

Share

A pet food company has recalled 160 bags of dog food sold in Southern California after a veterinarian reported that as many as 50 dogs may have died from eating it. Steve Wawrzyniak, vice president of technical services for the Doane Products Co., said the figure of 50 deaths was “highly exaggerated. There are some cases that could be heart worms or something else, that we haven’t determined,” he said. But as a precaution, the company has advertised in newspapers for customers to return 50-pound bags of “Real Life High Protein Dog Food,” with the code 2166SX, produced at its San Bernardino plant and sold in Chino.
