San Juan Capistrano : 3 Arrested After Car With No Lights Stopped

Three men, whose car was stopped by a sheriff’s deputy because its lights were not on, were arrested Wednesday night for possession of stolen property after a television and video recorder stolen in a burglary were found in the vehicle, authorities said Thursday.

Booked on suspicion of receiving stolen property were Jesus Diaz Cayetano, 21, of San Juan Capistrano, and Jaime Murillo Gurrola, 26, and Hipolito Valenzuela Reyes, 22, both of Santa Ana, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department said.

The men were arrested at about 10 p.m. on Domingo Street and Doheny Park Road after Deputy Kelsey Lovelady stopped their vehicle in a routine check to find out why the car’s lights were not on, Lt. Dick Olson said Thursday.

When Gurrola, the driver, opened the glove compartment to get the car’s registration, Lovelady noticed a gold brooch on top of the papers, Olson said. The deputy then looked in the back seat of the 1979 Chevrolet and saw a large plastic sack containing a television and a video recorder that matched descriptions of items taken in a burglary in the 32000 block of Alipaz Street earlier Wednesday evening. The deputy also found several screwdrivers and pliers on the floorboard of the passenger seat, Olson said.

Lovelady arrested the three men, and the owner of the burglarized home later identified the stolen items.

Olson said the three men were being held in County Jail on $10,000 bond each pending their arraignment.
