Gold Coast Express Upsets Cash Rate by a Nose in Champion of Champions
Gold Coast Express, ridden by Danny Cardoza, upset favored Cash Rate by a nose in the $200,000 Champion of Champions quarter horse race Saturday night at Los Alamitos.
It was the sixth stakes win of the year for Gold Coast Express, who passed $422,000 in career earnings. Gold Coast Express ran the 440 yards on a sloppy track in 21.55 seconds and paid $10.40, $3.00 and $2.20.
Cash Rate, which paid $2.20 and $2.10, finished 2 lengths ahead of third-place Prissy Fein, which paid $2.80.
Gold Coast Express is owned by William and Luellen Mitchell of La Jolla and trained by Bob Baffert.
