Malibu : 4 Praised for Halting Gunman
Three Malibu lifeguards and a former lifeguard have been honored by Sheriff Sherman Block for their actions in disarming a man after he threatened two young women in a Malibu beach parking lot and fired four shots into the air. The incident occurred shortly after midnight Aug. 26.
The four honorees, who wrestled the 44-year-old gunman to the ground and held him until sheriff’s deputies arrived, are temporary lifeguards Michael Stuart, 28, of Malibu; Scott Grisby, 23, of Sherman Oaks; Robert Wiegman, 22, of Camarillo; and former lifeguard Steven Wiegman, 24, also of Camarillo. No one was injured.
Block presented each man with a scroll and said, “In a split second, each of these young men made the decision to get involved, disregarding the danger to themselves . . . .”
