Local News in Brief : Zoning Change on Site Near Olive View OKd

Share

The Los Angeles city Planning Commission on Thursday approved a zone change on a parcel of land near Olive View Medical Center in Sylmar to allow for construction of a 4,000-square-foot commercial building. The approval came with the condition that the building not be used for medical offices.

The triangular lot on the corner of Roxford Street and Foothill Boulevard had previously been zoned for single-family residential use.

Homeowners who live near the site had raised concern at a recent public hearing that the building’s proximity to the soon-to-open Olive View hospital would result in office leases to doctors and other medical practitioners. Homeowners believed this type of use would create too much traffic and lead to parking along their residential streets.

The commercial building developer, Bruce R. Craeger, said that he intends to lease the ground floor of the two-and-a-half story building to a florist. Other tenants would likely include a real-estate office and travel agency, he said.
